Portrait Photography: an old muse refound?

I shot this photo of my daughter Grace and my friend, Linley Edwards about 12 years ago. Grace was about 10 months old and I had been shooting photos of Linley in the ocean, and when he came out I asked him to lay down in the sand, so that it would stick to his wet body. He then spontaneously picked up Grace and looked out to sea, and I looked up to see Grace peering over his shoulder. Her eyes were pools of awareness, looking right through me.  At about this time Herb Ritts was at the height of his career, and I found myself being inspired by some of his work. He was soon to pass away as was my own interest in Portrait Photography, which rarely found a commercial outlet. Now 12 years later and as an established Architectural Photographer, its intriguing to look back to see the road that wasn’t taken.
