Is it a sculpture, Is it a Building, Is it any good? Herzog and De Meuron’s 1111 Lincoln Road.

Its arrived! A bold engaging masterpiece that defies categorization.  So, OK its a parking Lot….but really its an urban adventure masking as a work of Architecture, wrapped up in the guise of mammoth sculpture and a curious case of open giganticism…but despite the fact that it so clearly sticks out like a fox in a chicken hen…it actually really works well with the rest of the urban environment and its a welcome addition to the livability of the city I love so much. Look for an upcoming article in Ocean Drive Magazine which features my photos of both the building and its charismatic developer, Robert Wennett. Its one of those buildings that reveals itself more thoroughly with repeated visits…check out the early morning sun pouring through the inverted columns (photo below)…Its very Corbu, but at the same time its got its own thing going.  Driving up and down the ramps is serious fun and reminds me of pushing one’s shopping trolley up Carlos Zapata’s Publix supermarket a few blocks away. Kristof Kieslowski, my favorite director would have made mince meat of this place…its so gloriously cinematic.
